blahSo, my Christmas was pretty good.
I am still lamenting over the lack of snow. Sarah (my cousin pair. We come in pairs. Nathan and Jonathan are the same age, Nick and Danielle are the same age, and then me and Sarah.) and I and Opa and Uncle Joe T. (Sarah's dad) went for a walk down to the beach last night, mainly so we wouldn't have to do dishes XD But anyway, we kept saying how it could've been summer, us walking down on the beach, a cool breeze, mild temperature. Crazy.
Anyway, I arrived in Grand Bend on Saturday night, after a stopover at Mum's friend Jill's house for a party she was having. I had my first jello shot! XD And it was funny because another lady, whom apparently knew me when I was like, two, had her first one as well. That was fun :)
On Christmas Eve, Opa, Oma, Mum, and I opened our presents together. I gave Mum a personalized keychain with a "k" and "katrina" spelled out on the little tag-thinger. I gave Opa and Oma belgian sea shells XD Opa didn't want to share. Opa and Oma gave me amazingly awesome presents. I got a set of dictionaries. They are the most beautiful things I have even seen. They are Oxford University dictionaries, with over 1/2 a million entries, with quotes from shakespeare, the bible, and others, and they have entries dating back from the 1700s. They are massive and come in 2 volumes. Lovely things. *hugs dictionaries*. They also gave me the Elvis Aloha From Hawaii 2-disc DVD XDDD That is so awesome. I also got a chocolate letter (standard fair) and a pretty day-planner with famous paintings and pictures and stuffs. Opa remarked, "Hey, there's Anne Frank. At age 13." and then Oma cynically replied, "Well, she didn't live much longer anyway," in this really obnoxious tone. XD Wow, I love my grandparents.
Oh! And Mum gave me a cookbook called Graceland's Table! XD More Elvis! It has original recipes from the kitchen at Graceland and some recipes from fans that they thought Elvis would like. Some interesting stuff in there.
Then yesterday was the family Christmas. Oma spent most of the day doing last minute preparations and bitching at Opa -_-. Then, at around 4:30, Joe and Bridget came. Yaaay /sarcasm. Bridget is...Putting it mildly, talkative. First thing she did was yap her head off at us because of Sydney's pink hair. Yeah. Anyway, they left quickly because they had to get their hotel room key. Yay. But then they came back. Oh well, family is family, I suppose.
At around 5, the Turners came, Aunt Saskia, Uncle Joe, Jon, Nick, and Sarah.
We all talked in the living room for a while and then we ate supper. All 12 of us couldn't fit at the big table, so Sarah and I got a little round table for two XDDDD It was so funny. Nick kept yelling, "OUTCAST TABLE!" and we kept saying, "No! We're special! We get our own table." It was funny. The table was like a little cafe table or something, we had our own wine glasses and a little candle in the middle. Awesome.
Omg. And then Uncle Joe T. made the best remark of the whole night. See, earlier we had joked about Jon's hair, because its really long and he looks like Jesus. Seriously. He even dressed in a robe, grabbed a loaf of bread, and went out as Jesus at Halloween. Then, Oma was saying how this was going to be the last time she was going to cook a whole Christmas meal. So Uncle Joe says, "So...If there are 12 of us, and this is the last supper...And we have Jesus..." And everyone burst out laughing. Then he continued, "..So if we have Jesus, all I want to know is...Who is Judas?" XDDD I love Uncle Joe. He rocks.
After supper, we opened presents. I got to be the official present passer outer. I also got another book, from Opa and Oma, called The Book of Small by Emily Carr. Then Mum and I got the generic Aunt Saskia present, but we got yummy citrus sage bubble bath :3
And we gave Opa his birthday present. Mum had emailed everyone and asked for us all to write our favourite or best memory of Opa. I wrote about porridge, because it was the first thing I could remember XDD So anyway, Mum took all the letters and then made them up in a scrapbook with pictures and everything. And OMG Jon wrote about making Opa go see Beverly Hills Ninjas with him XDDDDD So anyway, we gave it to Opa, and he opened up the book and started crying. It was sooo sweet. He had to leave the room. I think that was the first time I have ever seen Opa cry. So I guess he liked it :)
Only, UNCLE JOE THAT TWIT. (Not Joe T.) didn't write anything for the book! He said, "Sorry can't do it. No time." At least Bridget had the decency to write a little paragraph. And Uncle Joe never even passed on the message to Nathan or Danielle, so they aren't in there either, because of him. Grr. So annoying.
Uncle Joe has serious problems. He has lost his relationship with his children and he hates his marriage and he's got loads of issues because of it. I feel sorry for him, because he messed up his life, but at the same time, what he did was just rude.
Anyway.
Overall, it was a pretty nice Christmas. The two things that made it nice were Jon and Sarah.
When I was little, I always looked up to Jonathan. He was so funny and cool and I loved him kinda like a younger sister. But he's been away at university lately and I don't really see them often. And I never see the Niagra Falls people. I don't think I've seen Nathan and Danielle for like 3 years. Anyway, when he came into the living room, I was sitting in the big comfy chair and he comes up behind me and ruffled my hair a little bit. Just like I was a little girl again :) And then he hugged everyone and I felt kind of awkward, so he says, "Aw, c'mon, give me a hug," so I did :) He's such a sweet guy.
And at Thanksgiving, I didn't really get a chance to see Sarah much and also we didn't talk a lot, for some reason. We hadn't been getting along so well lately, not because we had like, mean feelings towards each other or anything, just because we were growing apart. Y'know? We like totally different things now. But since we were at the small 'outcast' table, away from everyone else, we started talking. And talking and talking. And it was just like old times. We actually get along great, and Sarah is a good influence on me because she is amazingly kind and considerate and always says "thank you" and "please" and is overall a really sweet girl. Not that I'm not, but I'm kind of reserved about those things, truthfully. I am hesitant to give hugs or say "happy holidays". I dunno. Anyway, it was nice to talk with her like that again.
